Did Homer visit Troy?

Homeros
After the Trojan War around 1200 BC, there was no settlement there for about 300 years. Greeks came there around 8th century BC at the time when Homer lived. Greeks proclaim there as sacred Troy and built a sacred place. In fact we can't give an exact answer, whether Homer had visited this place, but we can say the archaeological remains in Hisarlıktepe (Troy) from 8th century BC and the topography around Troy match to the descriptions in the Iliad. In the epic, The terrains where the war took place, Olympos, Athos and İsa mountains, Samothrake (Semadirek), Imbros (Gökçeada) and Tenedos (Bozcaada) islands, water sources in front of the city, big city doors, Skamandros (Karamenderes) river, headquarters on the harbor which are used by Akhaians to hold their ships, the wild winds and a lot of other details are told by Homer as if he is seeing everything from above with God's eye. Especially the adjectives he is using while he describes Troy (windy, draw, with nice walls etc.) and some details like ditch for defence fit with the archaeological findings. In conclusion, we can say that Homer or the person informing him, knew this city and its geography very well.
