As happened with other Anatolian poets, after his death many works were prescribed to him, but officially only the Iliad and the Odyssey are accepted as his works. With regard to the developments of Greek language and with the usage of the writing, we can say that Homer transcribed his works around the 8th century BC. Homer wrote first the Iliad around 730 BC The Iliad consists of 15.693 verses and 24 different sections, in which the last 51 days of the Trojan War are told. After around 20 years, he wrote the Odysseus, which consists of 12.100 verses and 24 sections, in which the homecoming of Akhaean warriors are told. These dates are acquired from the ancient historians lived after Homer and through the observation of the developments of Greek language. Other than that, we don't have any written evidence about the dating of these epics.
