Which methods are used in the excavations?

Because of technological lack, Schliemann excavations were made only with digging tools. Although in the proceeding years Schliemann added to his excavations the world famous experts like W. Dörpfeld (architect), Rudolf Wirchov (medical doctor), his excavations, especially during 1871-73 period, destroyed Troy in an unforgivable way. Blegen's excavations during 1930's years were the most modern ones for his time. His work was the first example of an archeological team with multi-experts.

Korfmann's recent excavations used the multi-disciplanry methods excellently. To these works joined many experts from fiderent areas: topographers, architects, researchers of the history of archtitect (to determine the architectural features), zoologists (to determine the bone findings), physicists (to determine the unexcavated places with magnetic tools), biologists (to determine the plant species), restorators (to protect the findings and to complete them), photographers (to document the findings), geomorphologists (to understand the old topography) etc.
