The interpretations of the epics of Homer began in 3rd century BC in the Museion Library of Alexandria by the important linguists of that time. After that period, the epics of Homer remained in the center of the language and literary of the ancient period. As the interpretations of the Thessalonikian theologician Eustathios from the 12th century shows, even in Byzantium the influence of these epics didn't fade away. In this sense, the epics can be considered as the foundations of the education of ancient times before and after Christianity. Even the Iliad is not accepted as a "holy book" in our sense, it was the reference book for thousands of years.
