Match the natural environment in the Iliad to our time?

Homeros gives in the Iliad many informations about Troy and its surroundings.

In these descriptions, Homeros pictures in a detailed manner the islands (Tenedos-Bozcaada; Gökçeada-İmros; Semadirek-Samotharke), the rivers (Karamenderes=Skamandros; Dümrek Çayı Simoies) and the mountains (Kaz Dağları= İda Dağı) near to Troy. The descriptions of Homer gives are not only geographical, but also about the plants, birds and other living creatures. The poet sometimes describes the war zone, the geography of the plain panaromically, in a very unique, poetic style. He describes the location of Troy as in the opposite of Tenedos (Bozcaada) and on the hill where two rivers (Skamandros-Simios) intersect and fall into the strain.

City of Troy, rivers, strain and the islands

The recent geomorphological and philological studies showed that the current natural environment is similar to the natural surroundings told in the Iliad. If you look from a high point of Troy to your environment in a clear sky, you can see the places where our poets describes in his epic.
