Troy, lower city, Karamenderes (Skamandros) River and Coast of Beşik, and Tenedos in the background match to the description in the Iliad. In the Iliad there are many details about place of the war, which should happened sometimes in front of the defense trench and defense wall, sometimes on the plain between defense trench and the ships of Achaens. The castle excavations by Dörpfeld (1893-1894) and Blegen (1932-1938) in Troy, the findings of long shot weapons like arrow heads were very few, and this brings the idea that the war happened outside of the castle settlement. Recent excavations of M. Osman Korfmann showed us a city matches to descriptions in the Iliad. Also because the weapon findings were very few in fron of the castle, the action must had happened on the trench and walls that surround the lower city. Moreover, the geomorphologic researches showed that with regard of the topography of that time, there must be a plain between the lower city and Karamenderes (Skamandros) River. The war, which heppened outside of the Trojan Castle, must also had happened on this plain.
The geomorpgological researches madde by Prof. İ. Kayan on the Trojan plain laid out many details of the old period.
