In a political sense, the Trojan War - or the Gallipoli Campaign later - are wars waged between the East and West, between Europa and Asia. According to Homer's Iliad or other sources, there are two main enemies in the Trojan War. King Agamemnon and his allies on the one side, and Troy with King Priam and its allies on the other side. Among the Trojan allies, who came from 22 different regions of Anatolia, were also mythical Amazons and Lycians. The Iliad gives the number of 1000 ships of the Achaians landing on Trojan coasts and where the crews came from. Of course we can't accept these numbers, but it gives us a key of understanding the vast amount of men involved.
Homer gives us the list before he lets the campaign begin. He names invaders from 29 different regions and knows their geographical and political background. Agamemnon was the leader of the army. The fleet tried to overwhelm the city in a first rush and attack of the walls, but failed. With help of their allies Troy was to survive 10 years of attacks, and was only finally taken by treason.
