How much of Troy has been excavated?

If we consider the 147 years of excavation history of Troy, we can divide the excavations into two regions. Trojan castle with today's visiting roads and its surroundings, especially the lower city excavations 300 m. to the south.

In the first periods of excavations bu Calvert, Schliemann, Dörpfeld and Blegen, the 95% of Trojan castle had been excavated. The castle, which is almost as big as two footbal fields and the lower city excavations were made by Dörpfeld and Blegen period, but these excavationa are in fact minor excavations. M.Ο. Korfmann's new excavation that began in 1988 worked on the question of chronology (layers), and worked in the castle to understand the excavations made before him. Parallel to these works, also restoration and protection was practiced. In this respect, a walk road had been made in order to observe all the excavation process. Besides the works on castle, Korfmann also emphasised the research in the lower city and acquired important results with geomagnetic and excavation. If we add the latest Korfmann excavations, we can say that only the 10% percent of the city came to surface.
